Edward W. Frees. on Construction of Sequential Age Replacement Policies via Stochastic Approximation
نویسنده
چکیده
Stochastic approximation (SA), a stochastic analog of iterative techniques for finding the zeroes of a function (e.g., Newton-Raphson), is applied to a problem in resource allocation, the age replacement policy (ARP) problem. A stochastically failing unit is replaced at failure or at time t, whichever comes first, under an age replacement policy. When the form of the failure distribution is unknown the question of estimating ~, the optimal replacement time (optimal in terms of achieving the smallest long-run expected cost), is important. SA is superior to other existing sequential methodologies introduced by Bather (1977). Further, this application motivates novel ways in which the theory of SA is extended.

Approximation solution of two-dimensional linear stochastic Volterra-Fredholm integral equation via two-dimensional Block-pulse functions
In this paper, a numerical efficient method based on two-dimensional block-pulse functions (BPFs) is proposed to approximate a solution of the two-dimensional linear stochastic Volterra-Fredholm integral equation. Finally the accuracy of this method will be shown by an example.
متن کاملA stochastic network design of bulky waste recycling – a hybrid harmony search approach based on sample approximation
Facing supply uncertainty of bulky wastes, the capacitated multi-product stochastic network design model for bulky waste recycling is proposed in this paper. The objective of this model is to minimize the first-stage total fixed costs and the expected value of the second-stage variable costs. The possibility of operation costs and transportation costs for bulky waste recycling is considered ...
متن کاملFuzzy age-dependent replacement policy and SPSA algorithm based-on fuzzy simulation
An increase in the performance of deteriorating systems can be achieved through the adoption of suitable maintenance policies. One of the most popular maintenance policies is the age-dependent replacement policy. In this paper, a fuzzy agedependent replacement policy is considered in which the lifetimes of components are treated as fuzzy variables. To minimize the long-term expected cost per un...
متن کاملModelling and Decision-making on Deteriorating Production Systems using Stochastic Dynamic Programming Approach
This study aimed at presenting a method for formulating optimal production, repair and replacement policies. The system was based on the production rate of defective parts and machine repairs and then was set up to optimize maintenance activities and related costs. The machine is either repaired or replaced. The machine is changed completely in the replacement process, but the productio...
متن کاملMachine Learning Solution Methods for Multistage Stochastic Programming
This thesis investigates the following question: Can supervised learning techniques be successfully used for finding better solutions to multistage stochastic programs? A similar question had already been posed in the context of reinforcement learning, and had led to algorithmic and conceptual advances in the field of approximate value function methods over the years (Lagoudakis and Parr, 2003;...
